Disappointing and nonsensical
What was most alluring about this book which piqued my interest in it was that it was described as a tale of a magician who attempts to create life. Unfortunately, this seemed such a minor theme in the book that it was hardly mentioned more than twice throughout, save for the climax. The impression that I was left with by the end was that this was a story all about the beautiful Margaret, her plain but loyal friend Susie, and loving fiancÚ Arthur who would go to great lengths for her. Oh yeah, and something about an evil magician worked in every now and then.
Dull as the book may have been in the first half (not to mention slow to start), I was most offended and disappointed at having been tricked by such a description of the book which seemingly only applied to its final chapter.
