Even though this is a relatively old book, the themes addressed: love, honor, and the basic goodness of people are addressed. The characters are believable and charming although a bit underdeveloped. I have read this book since I was a child and enjoyed it each time.

This book is delightful. Never before have I enjoyed nature so much in the cover of a book. The development of Freckles is not just an adventurous plot, but the development of strong character and the emergence of a man full of moral fiber.
